NZ Cricket in Genetic Engineering Shock

LINCOLN: The sports and science worlds were in turmoil yesterday following the discovery of a secret genetic laboratory situated at the NZ Cricket Academy in Lincoln.

The laboratory was apparently developed in the late 1980's using DNA samples from New Zealand's stock of medium pacers of the era to breed a succession of medium pacer bowlers, ideally suited to New Zealand pitch conditions.

It is believed that genetic material was extracted from Ewen Chatfield, Martin Snedden, Gary Troup and Jeremy Coney in 1988. This was then used in a fiendish plot to create a succession of military medium bowlers, beginning in the early 1990's with the development of Gavin Larsen, and Richard de Groen and continuing to this day, most recently with Scott Styris and Chris Drum.

It is believed that Sir Richard Hadlee refused to participate in the genetic experiment on moral grounds.
