Props kick earns fine

MASTERTON: Red Star Prop Wayne Ihaka, 29 was said to be "pretty dark" at having to consume four litres of DB Draught beer at his teams court session on Saturday afternoon.

Ihaka was handed down the punishment by club stalwart and forwards coach Mark "Buddha" Rogers for deciding to boot for touch late in the first half of Red Stars game against local rivals Coast.

Rogers deemed the kick an offence because a prop should never, ever kick a ball during a match. Ihaka was slapped with the fine in the Number One changing shed at Red Stars ground around 5.50pm on Saturday afternoon.

His defence that it was a good kick and that he had been a good kicker in 4th Form was shouted down by his team-mates and Ihaka was forced to drink the beer out of plastic jugs whilst standing on a chair.

To add insult to injury a further charge that Ihaka was a bit soft in the mauls earned him a further jug later in the evening.
