| DUNEDIN: First year Otago students Gareth Skinner and Nick Wilson are no closer to resolving their conflict over the coveted 69 jersey for the upcoming season. The pair are now entering the third day of their deadlock and hopes for a peaceful resolution to the crisis are fading fast.
The impasse began when Skinner (known to his friends as Kegsie) and Wilson (who prefers to be called Spader) both requested to have the number 69 emblazoned on the back of their 2003 Hayward Hall Rugby Jerseys. Rugby etiquette and hall policy, however, forbid two players on the same team from having the same number on their jersey. Team captain and jersey organiser Mike ‘Terminator’ Smith is hoping that the pair can resolve their differences quickly. Smith is determined to have the jerseys printed in time for the teams first court session, scheduled for the first Monday after orientation. “Kegsie and Spader are both really stubborn and each is equally determined to get their way on this one,” an exasperated Smith told reporters in the weight room of the Unipol gym. “If they haven't decided by 5 o’clock this afternoon they’re going to have to have a jug skull (race) to sort it our once and for all." "We have to get the jersey‘s down to this place my brother knows in South Dunedin to get them printed by tomorrow. If we don't they won‘t be ready for the Back Yard Yard Party, let alone boat racing week.” ![]() Kegsie getting some practice in before tonights all important jug skull |
