| PHEONIX: Professional golfer Mike Jackson of Miami Beach Florida had a crisis of confidence as he approached the 15th green at the Arizona Invitational just outside of Phoenix yesterday. Jackson who was 3 over the card for his day and in a share for 23rd place, was suddenly struck by the realisation that there might be more to life than being a professional sportsperson.
"I mean what is it we are actually doing here John?" Mike asked Georgia based playing partner John Hughes. "It seems all we do is walk around smacking little white balls all day in the hope of winning an over sized piece of silverware, surely there's more to life." "Shouldn't we be out trying to find a cure for cancer, or maybe helping kids in the third world get enough to eat and stuff. Surely there has to be some purpose to this whole life thing. I mean what were we put on this earth to do, get the longest drive on the 14th?" Jackson whose highest PGA finish was a share of 12th in the Des Moines classic in 1994, went on to bogie the 15th and then par the next 3 holes to finish with a 4-over 76 for the round. ![]() Mike Jackson on way to a share of 23rd in the Arizona Invitation on the weekend. |
