Man takes moment to ponder favourite WTC mail

AUCKLAND: Nearly a full month after the tragedy that devastated the World Trade Centre, Auckland resident Barry Ellis took a moment to ponder his favourite World Trade Centre related email.

"When I first heard about the tragedy I was shocked and dazed and then outraged. How could they do such a thing? Then my thoughts slowly turned to the plethora of bad taste jokes and emails that I would soon be receiving and a sort of peaceful calm came over me.

Of course it took at least a day or two before the silly emails started coming into the office, which is perhaps the highest testimony of all to those brave people who lost their lives in the tragedy.

I mean we all joked about it during morning tea and stuff, but it was as though there was a global moment of silence from the jokesters and pranksters of the electronic world. It was really quite touching.

Now though, I can't open my inbox without another doctored photograph, of some sort or other popping onto my screen."

Some of Ellis's favourites so far include the now famous "last holiday snap" from the top of the WTC, which shows a tourist posing for a photo oblivious to the 757 flying towards him in the distance. Another favourite was the "where's Osama?" photo montage which kept Ellis and fellow co-worker's occupied for a full half hour last Friday.

But by far Ellis' favourite email thus far has been the Wanted poster of Osama Bin Laden, showing the terrorist mastermind in many different disguises.

"Boy did we howl with laugher when that one came in. It was like a series of cool photos of Osama Bin Laden in heaps of disguises. You know Osama without a beard, Osama with sunglasses on, you know that sort of stuff. We honestly laughed for a full half hour."

"Then Jerry noticed that the poster was actually from the FBI. Oh man I just lost it when we found that out. Maybe it was because I'd had two coffees already that morning, but that sure as hell is the funniest one so far. I really don't think there could ever be one to top that."
