| HARARE - President George W Bush has condemned the recent elections in Zimbabwe as "unfair," "manipulated," and "seriously flawed."
The elections returned 78-year old President Robert Mugabe for another 6 years with over 50% of the vote. "It's pretty obvious this election has been rigged," said Bush in a prepared statement at the Whitehouse. "We know that thousands upon thousands of people were kept form voting due to the reduction of polling stations. We know that thousands upon thousands were struck from voting lists or physically kept from voting. And we know that thousands upon thousands of votes went missing within the provincial stronghold of Mugabe's brother, Governor Jeb Mugabe." The Commonwealth also has doubts about the validity of the elections and are investigating the possibility of suspending Zimbabwe from future meetings and attendance at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester, whenever that happens to be. ![]() President Robert Mugabe |
