LOS ANGELES : Singing superstar Michael Jackson's now regrets turning down the role of Ari in the new movie hit Planet of the Apes. Tim Burton who directed the film which has been a major summer hit in the United States originally offered the role to Jackson in the development stage of the project.

Jackson had to turn down the role however in order to prepare for his own new movie project The Way of the Unicorn, The Endangered One, a $75 million animated tale due to start pre-production next month.

In the new project Jackson will assume the voice of an orphan named Sailor who teams up with a lonely rich girl and a band of endangered animals on a quest to save Mother Earth from the environmental destruction caused by mega-rich industrialists, entrepreneurs and entertainment moguls.

The role of Ari was finally given to Helen Bonham Carter.

As an interesting aside eOnline reported that the current Mrs. Jackson, Debbie Rowe, has said that before Michael "made love" to her, he dressed up as Peter Pan and danced around the bedroom, put on a horse's head and ran around the room on a broomstick. "It made him feel romantic," she says.
