LONDON: British entertainer George Michael is again courting controversy after announcing plans to re-record his 1984 Wham! hit Freedom as a protest song against US President George W. Bush.

The singer, who has previously recorded anti-Bush song Shoot the Dog, is planning to re-record Freedom with help from other anti-war musicians and release the single to mark the sixth anniversary of the US-led invasion of Iraq.

The controversial new lyrics include references to Guantanamo Bay and to Bush misleading the public with his claims the Iraqi Ba'ath regime harboured weapons of mass destruction. The song provides a scathing parody of Bush’s anti-terrorist stance.

All proceeds from the recording will go to warchild.org.uk - a charity that provides aid to child victims of the US War of Terror.

The revised lyrics to George Michael’s Freedom are:

Everyday you tell a different story
People saying that you're working for me
Those weapons of destruction
Are making a fool of you.

If I proved it baby you'd deny it
But you laugh and tell me I should try it
Tell me I'm a baby
And I don't understand

But you know I can’t forgive you
Not this once, twice forever
'Cause you can take them to hell and back
Just as long as you’re the leader
And you do

I don't want your freedom
I don't want you bombing towns
I don't want Guantanamo baby
Petrol love just brings me down
I don't NEED your freedom
George, all I want right now is you

Like a prisoner who don’t have a key
But I can't escape until you charge me
I just go from day to day
Getting raped and used

You take my hand and tell me
I'm a plotter
and make me sign things I don't want to
I bet you someday baby
Someone says the same to you

But you know I can’t forgive you
Not this once, twice forever
'Cause you can take them to hell and back
Just as long as you’re the leader
And you do

I don't want your freedom
I don't want you bombing town
I don't want cheap oil baby
Petrol love just brings me down
I don't NEED your freedom
George, all I want right now is you

To withdraw, wo oh oh oh oh oh ah ah!
