| CHRISTCHURCH (PA): Christchurch Radio station ROCK-FM, all rock, all the time, was fined by the Broadcasting Standards Authority on Monday for not having a Wacky Breakfast Crew.
The popular ROCK-FM, rock of the sixties, seventies, eighties and nineties, was fined $3000 and taken off the air until a suitably wacky Brekie-crew had been found. Broadcasting Standards Authority spokesperson Lynn Jackson stated in her summary, that the "Broadcasting Act clearly states that every commercial radio station, must have a Breakfast Crew made up of two, or three, madcap, zany characters, to help listeners start their day the specific radio station's way." Ms Jackson would not comment on further allegations that ROCK-FM had played music recorded by New Zealand artists. If found guilty the station faces heavy penalties from the authority and may have their broadcasting license revoked. Ms Jackson did state that the Radio Industry took allegations like these very seriously. "If it is found that a New Zealand radio station played music that was not recorded overseas and was not released by a major foreign label, then serious repercussions will follow." |
