| JOHNSONVILLE: Local resident and long time movie buff Karl Thomas has thought of a great idea for a Jim Carrey movie. Thomas is reluctant to give too much of the plot away, but he did suggest the film was a cross between Full Metal Jacket and Dumb and Dumber.
After a half-hearted prompt for more information from his flatmate, Thomas adopting the gravely tones a movie trailer voice talent, and ran through a synopsis of the film for those gathered at his Burgess Road flat. "Joe White has it all. He’s rich, great with the ladies, and his dad’s a senator. There is only one little problem. He‘s just been drafted to Vietnam.” After being greeted by silence Thomas then offered some more information about the film. "Basically Joe’s this rich stoner guy who gets shipped off to Vietnam ‘cause his dad wants to run for President one day. While in the Mekong he spends the whole time getting in and out of hilarious misadventures with a mad cap crew of fellow misfits.” “It‘s also like a splatter movie though because Joe and his mates get sent on missions where he has to go and kill hundreds of Vietnamese soldiers and villagers. So it‘s kind of a sick statement about war and Bush and all that sort of stuff.” Thomas’ flatmates after some prompting, and a bucket bong, eventually agreed that the idea had “promise.” They were also quick to point out that the plot needed some fleshing out. Despite being unemployed for three years, Thomas feels that his schedule is currently too busy to attempt a screenplay. “Perhaps I could email Jim Carrey’s agent or something and see if they want to buy the idea off me,” Thomas mused. “Nobody’s done a decent Vietnam war comedy yet.” |
