LOS ANGELES: Plans have been announced to finally release the 1997 Oscar winning film Schindler's List on DVD. The publicity department for Universal Pictures have announced the limited edition DVD will also include some extra special features as well as never seen before footage.

“Even though the film has a very strong message, audiences demand something extra from our DVD releases. They want a full entertainment package and what could possibly be more entertaining than the 16 extra minutes of wacky outtakes, flubs, bloopers and antics from the Oscar winning cast and crew,” gushed Universal head of publicity Hillman Roberts.

The special limited edition collectors issue DVD bonus disk also includes never seen before deleted scenes as well as a special director's commentary.

In the directors commentary, Stephen Spielberg discusses how much of a battle it was for him personally to make the movie. He also reveals that the initial idea for the film evolved after plans to set Back to The Future 4 - Back to the Fuehrer in a German concentration camp fell through.

“Originally we wanted to have Michael J Fox try and ferry as many prisoners as possible to safety in his DeLorean. But a shooting conflict with Christopher Lloyd meant we had to put the project on hold,” Spielberg reveals. “So in desperation we were forced to turn our attention to the story of Oscar Schindler instead.”

The limited edition Schindler’s List DVD will be released on September 22nd.
