| HOLLYWOOD - Russell Crowe was reported to be "pissed off, mate" after not winning an Oscar for his role in The Beautiful Mind.
Crowe even went so far as to attack one unsuspecting member of the academy, pinning him against the wall with a hand around his throat. "He just started abusing me and strangling me," said film editor for 24 years, Al Denton. "This hand came out of nowhere and grabbed my throat, pinned me against the wall and began taunting me. "Do you know who I am, mate?" he screamed, with madness in his eyes and barbecued prawns and three cans of Fosters on his breath. "I'm the gladiator, mate! Does this mean nothing to you?" Crowe was pulled off the terrified Denton by Dame Judi Dench. He left the Oscars ceremony soon after, his laundry bag slung over his shoulder, this time empty of any golden statuette. Crowe's manager was quick to defend the New Zealand born, Australian reared star. "He watched Turner & Hooch last week on DVD and... well, he's a little miffed that Tom Hanks could possibly have more Oscars than he does." This years Best Actor Award went to Denzel Washington, who coincidentally starred with Hanks in Philadelphia, leading Crowe to believe some kind of conspiracy is afoot. "Mumble mumble Washington... mumble damned mumble Hanks. Mumble mumble memble Washington... where's my sword?" Crowe was overheard saying as headed off into the Hollywood night. It is believed Crowe will push for best actor again next year with his self-produced film, A Beautiful Gladiator, which is scheduled to finish filming next month. ![]() Russell Crowe in Gladiator |
