Auckland: Hollywood mega-couple Michael Douglas and fiance Catherine Zeta Jones did not arrive in Auckland yesterday on a flight from Los Angeles.

Hollywood's hottest couple were not aboard United Airlines flight 831 from LA when it arrived at Auckland Airport shortly after 3pm. Douglas, star of such box office hits as Romancing the Stone and Jewel of the Nile is best known for his Oscar winning performance as high flying nihilist Gordon Gecko in the 1987 film Wall Street.

Zeta Jones, the hottest Welsh export since Delilah, and 25 years Douglas's junior, recently gave birth to the couple's son, Dylan Michael Douglas. Douglas and Zeta Jones were not seen coming through customs surrounded by a throng of fans and extra security measures were not deemed necessary.

Auckland Airport security manager Laughlin McNeill said that everything seemed to have gone smoothly for the glamour couple's non-arrival. "We were prepared for anything," he said. "Last year The Artist Formerly Known as Prince didn't come to New Zealand, and just a few weeks ago Salman Rushdie also didn't arrive".

Caught unawares, local paparazzi were not on hand to snap the stars. Douglas and Zeta Jones are not expected to go to Queenstown for a skiing holiday later in the week.
