Protests at the World Economic Forum
Tuesday, 01 August 2000 12:00
Melbourne is hosting the World Economic Forum's (WEF) Asia-Pacific Summit today. Protesters, just as they did in Seattle and Washington, have marred the proceedings, however, once again proving that First World Governments have learnt nothing about crowd control from our friends in Communist China.

After following the proceedings closely, yesterday, not once did I witness the Police produce water-cannons, tear gas or attack hounds, methods so successfully deployed by our Chinese allies to combat their own filthy dissidents.

One must wonder why so much money is spent on the Police and Armed Forces if time and again they fail to intervene in situations such as these. These protests provide our Soldiers and Police with a perfect opportunity to exercise using both rubber bullets and live ammunition. Although organised, these protesters are typically unarmed, greatly reducing the likelihood of casualties. With the Olympics just days away, one would think that the Australian Police would be itching to squeeze off a few rounds in preparation for the big event.

In short, something must be done about this growing trend of political dissent. These protesters will march for any cause, anything from Globalisation to Free Trade, from Environmental Issues to Child Labour. It is obvious that they have not thought about what they are marching for. These people are like sheep, they do not, or can not think for themselves. This tragically is so often the case when people succumb to life long addictions to drugs.

It is about time these people learnt the lessons of the real world, perhaps a little dose of Chinese water-cannon torture will bring them to their senses.

Thousands of unthinking protesters at the WEF in Melbourne.
