AUCKLAND: Sanitarium New Zealand has announced the creation of an Award to honour the memory of broadcaster Peter Sinclair.

The award will be presented each year to the most promising radio broadcaster and will be known as the Peter Sinclair Marmite Award for Young Broadcaster of the Year.

Along with the recognition offered by the award, winners will be given a cash prize of $5000 and a trip to London to visit the offices of BBC radio.

Sinclair, who died last month of leukaemia, was a well-respected and popular broadcaster whose career spanned over 30 years. Chairman of Sanitarium Foods, Ray Jones, was a lifelong fan of Sinclair, "I've enjoyed all his work from his sixties days with television shows such as "Let's Go" and "C'mon" to his radio show "Love Songs To Midnight."

Mr Jones considers that the annual award is a suitable way to honour Sinclair's contribution to the people of New Zealand and to recognise up and coming broadcasting talent. "Hopefully this award will help young entertainers on their way to a promising career in New Zealand broadcasting."
