| ALEXANDRA: Former International Netballer and television commentator Julie Coney, nee Townsend, originally came from Alexandra, Alexandra resident Darrel Kelleher revealed yesterday. The revelations came when Mrs. Coney briefly appeared on One Network News last night to discuss New Zealand's upcoming netball test with South Africa. After her appearance Mr. Kelleher briefly stated to wife Mary, that Julie once lived in the town and even attended the local high school for a couple of years.
Reliable sources close to Mrs. Coney state that she occasionally returns to Alexandra to visit her mother who still lives in the town - somewhere up on Bridge Hill. Mrs. Coney is not the only famous New Zealander to have once resided in Alexandra. Other famous former residents include All Black forward Murray Pearce and former New Zealand cricket captain Ken Rutherford.
