| Waihopai - U.S. Government officials have denied giving the go-ahead to convert the two Anglo-American spy-bases, in Tangimoana and Waihopai, into youth-orientated dance arenas. The "Echelon" spy operation, with bases in the United States, Britain, Canada, New Zealand and Australia is rumoured to be reeling from a drop in industrial espionage business since the dotcom bubble burst earlier this year, leading the group to look for other sources of revenue.
Many believe the dome-shaped buildings would be the perfect environment for alternative dance venues. "The lights, the beeping, the acoustics... it would all go off, man," said Waihopai resident, DJ Vu, who claims to have permersion from the US Government and Internal Affiars to begin converting the bases into dance venues for this summer's gathering over New Years Eve. "With these babies, we gonna turn this place into the place to be for the International Club set. There's no reason why Waihopai can't be the next Ibiza," stated DJ Vu, who's real name is Nick Palmer. ![]() The Waihopai Spy Base will be converted into an alternative dance venue in time for next summers Gathering festival. |
