| INVERCARGILL: Invercargill youths are infuriated by the inclusion of a new chicane in the town's main street claiming that it has increased lap times by up to 30 seconds. The new chicane was built as part of the Council's beautification plan for the city centre, last month and has come under heavy criticism since.
Opponents of the new roadway want the section removed stating that the addition will cost them hundred of dollars in petrol over the course of the next year, and may lead to accidents on what they claim is now a dangerous stretch of new road. Not all of the cities youth's are for the removal of the chicane. Local resident Kevin Hill (34), who has been driving the route for 19 years, stated that the new chicane was a much-needed improvement in the circuit. Hill stated that the chicane would both test younger drivers and provide much needed variation for older hands, in what he describes as an otherwise novice circuit. ![]() Invercargill resident Kevin Hill (left) with friends Nath and Nick |
