DUNEDIN: The Law Faculty of Otago University have named Katie Young as the most Promising scholar of 2000. Ms Young (23) from Wellington will receive a $1000 scholarship from the University to aid in her tuition.

Straight 'A' student, Young was delighted with the accolade, which was announced by the Dean of the Law Faculty Prof. Graham Fox at a luncheon on Tuesday. Ms. Young told those gathered that once she graduates she hopes to use her degree to help the Rich and Privileged wherever they may be in New Zealand.

Forth year student Ms Young, stated that upon graduation she hopes to protect as many wealthy people from the inadequacies of the Law as possible. "There are an alarming number of poor people both here and overseas demanding and getting basic human rights. Good, moderately hard working Rich people the world over, need more protection now then they ever have before." Young went on to state that she hopes to work tirelessly to ensure that the gap between the Rich and Poor of New Zealand will continue to widen indefinitely.

Upon graduation, Ms Young intends to work in New Zealand for three years before going overseas to work for a corporate law firm - hopefully in London. "Although New Zealand is where I want to settle, I feel that my conscience will push me overseas where the number of rich people being exploited is increasing alarmingly."

Young stated that she would most like to protect defenceless Swiss Banks from "greedy" relatives of Jewish Holocaust survivors. She also hoped that one day she could help multinationals operating in underdeveloped countries protect themselves from the taxes imposed by "money grabbing third world governments."

To further distinguish herself from future competitors in the job market Ms. Young is complementing her LLB with a Commerce degree majoring in Management. Young was confident that an LLB BCom would help to set her apart from the thousands of law students graduating each year.

Apart from academic pursuits Young is a prominent member of campus's popular Youth National Party and she also takes an active interest in Formula One Motor racing.

Back to the slog. Katie Young, returns to her books after being named Otago's top Law student of 2000.
