AUCKLAND: A South Auckland woman who falsely claimed she was raped by a pit bull terrier on P has publicly apologised to genuine rape victims and to pit bulls. Her lawyer, Jacinta Hawker, stated that her client is extremely remorseful.

The SPCA is now investigating how the pit bull terrier was destroyed without receiving a fair trial. A Manurewa P-dealer has also laid a complaint, claiming he was unfairly linked to the deceased pit bull.

Spinner can reveal the costs of the case were not only felt by genuine rape victims, innocent pit bulls and P-dealers, but also by the taxpayer. Almost $60,000 was spent on a police investigation totalling 400 man-hours, 191 pizzas and 213 Big Mac Combos.

The charge of making a false statement carries a penalty of three months in prison or a fine of up to $2,000. Any pit bulls convicted of taking P may be fined up to eight cans of Champ and impounded for up to two months.
