Concern over wasted sponsorship money

AUCKLAND: An Auckland man is concerned a child he sponsors through World Vision may have died in the Boxing Day tsunami, meaning he is wasting his money. Lee Chambers has been sending money to Tali (7) who lives in Sumatra, for the past seven years.

During that time he has received a steady stream of letters and photos from Tali.

But he has heard nothing from the child since early December last year.

"I am really concerned that I am pouring my money into a black hole here. If Tali has died I need know ASAP so I can arrange to sponsor another kid," said Mr Chambers.

Chambers stated he was giving serious thought to cutting off his automatic payments unless he had word on Tali's status soon.

"I mean if I'm not getting anything from it, what's the point?" he asked.
