| TIMARU: Plumber and local volunteer fire fighter Darren Potts (59) is growing increasingly frustrated by his inability to get his newly acquired Mustek DVD player to record his favourite TV programs.
Urged on by his son Alistair (30), an appliance salesman at Farmers, Darren has tried every trick in the book, but still can’t manage to get the ‘damned thing’ to record ‘diddley.’ “Alistair assures me that he can get his to record no problems at all. He even bought over a DVD of last weeks Super 12 match for me to watch. I just can’t work out what I’m doing wrong.” Darren’s son Alistair was not surprised that his father was having trouble with his new DVD player. ‘I have waited a long time for this moment.‘ Alistair told reporters. ‘From when I was a young boy Dad always used to go on about good he was at fixing things and working things out. His assertions always came despite mountains of damning evidence to the contrary. Dad could never programme the VCR, but he would be the first to jump down my throat if I happened to video the wrong channel for the 1995 world cup final, or tape over his cousin’s wedding video with an episode of the Simpson’s.’ ‘I have waited a long time to take my revenge. And now. It is mine.‘ Despite feeling satisfied with the fruits of his labour, Alistair admits he feels a little sorry for his father now his plans have come to fruition. ‘My sister tells me he almost rips his hair out every time Coronation Street comes on and he can’t record it.’ ‘I thought about telling him, but its all got a little out of hand now. Maybe I’ll just suggest he send it to the manufacturer for repair.’ ![]() The offending DVD player/recorder |
