Democracy over for another 3 years

WELLINGTON: The collation of the final election results signified the end of democracy in New Zealand for a further three years. New Zealanders celebrated the Labour win secure in the knowledge that they will have no say whatsoever in the running of their country for the foreseeable future.

Politicians returned to Wellington satisfied that the will of the people can now be completely ignored in favour of fulfilling their own whims and fancies. "The people have spoken," stated Steve Maharey the returning MP for Palmerston North, "now if they could be so kind as to be quiet we can get on with doing whatever we want to do."

Reports close to Parliament suggest that the average New Zealander will now have about as much influence on the way that New Zealand will be governed as a newly elected New Zealand First MP.
