| FIELDING: Despite spending five years at the University of Otago accruing a $40000 loan in the process Fielding resident Max Grace feels that the education system has failed him in one critical aspect - he is still stupid.
As a result Grace has filed suit against the University of Otago for $50000 for failing to provide him with sufficient intellect to remove him from the ever-expanding ranks of the intellectually feeble. "When I started University I thought it would be the true test of my intellectual abilities. If I failed everything then fine I'm stupid, but if I could make it out after three years with some sort of qualification then surely no one could call me stupid." Grace who completed a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in both Psychology and Anthropology first started having doubts about the benefits of his education after completing his first major in Psychology in 1999. "After I finished my first degree I still had an inkling that I was no smarter than I was when I first went to university. Over the summer holidays for example I found myself routinely being outwitted by my 9-year-old cousin in games of both Connect 4 and Cluedo and on three occasions I left my headlights on whilst at the pub killing the battery each time. Three times!" "Naturally I concluded that I had perhaps not yet learnt enough so enrolled in a few more papers. But sure enough two years and $17000 later I'm still as dumb as I've ever been." "I leave my cell phone on when I go to movies, I watch the Holmes show, I bought the new Michael Jackson CD and I just got a $8000 bank loan to buy a car. Christ I even voted for New Zealand First in the last election - I'm damned stupid." "You know I would understand (being stupid) if perhaps I only just scraped through everything but I not only passed every paper I took, they sometimes gave me "A's. Let's face it the University should have failed someone as dumb as I am." The University of Otago refused to comment on the action, but are believed to be preparing a statement for release on Thursday. ![]() |
