INVERCARGILL - Another stash of hypodermic needles were found by Police yesterday, this time within the confines of Invercargill's Kew Hospital. Police were quick to issue a statement regarding the discovery of the needles, hoping to address the escalating drug problem within the community.

"It is apparent," remarked Detective-Inspector Rob Crinkle of the Invercargill Police, "that we have within our local community several hardcore drug users who show little shame in their crime. Needles have been found within several locations of late, but this find has been the biggest yet."

Detective Inspector Crinkle stated that this haul demonstrates that the face of the typical hard drug user had changed considerably over the last ten to fifteen years. "Heroin use was once restricted to Second Hand Clothing Store Assistants and Ex-Flying Nun musicians. The problem now is much more widespread. This latest haul would suggest that drug use is rampant even among Government Employees."

Police, yesterday, were continuing their search throughout the Invercargill premises. Detective-Inspector Crinkle found it "mind-boggling" that the drug users had taken the time to sterilise and individually package each of the needles. "It just goes to show the capabilities of the criminal mind we're dealing with here."

The hospital where the needles were found has been temporarily closed until the search for further criminal evidence is completed.
